Gotta tell you, this winter is looking to be a really cold one, and I for ainapos;t looking forward to it. Iapos;m finding myself wondering what it would be like to be an animal that hibernates during the winter; the idea of hibernating is starting to look very attractive. The downside, of course, is that one misses a good chunk of the year and many opportunities for partying by hibernating. Itapos;s a no-win situation, I guess.

Things might be a little better if customers would stop complaining about the cold weather and bitching to us about whether their drinks are hot enough. Our coffee machines only makes coffee so hot, folks Too hot and itapos;ll burn your tongue--and then youapos;ll bitch to us about that, too.

So, last Saturday, I needed to mail a postcard, and I was heading up to Manhattan. It was most urgent I remember to keep the card in my bookbag and to go to the post office at the Port Authority so you can guess what I remembered I meant to do when I was on the subway heading away from the Port Authority.

Incidentally, on the cross-town subway a slightly overdressed fellow wheeled on a cart; I didnapos;t pay attention until I was almost done with that leg of my journey, so I was surprised to see he was a magician, and he was in the midst of using a magic box to produce a white rabbit with black spots before our eyes. I recommend taking the magician/bunny lines if you can.

Still I assumed there would be a Post Office, or at least a mailbox, somewhere around the subway station, which was not quite as true as I hoped. On the street I started poking around, walking a block down this way and that, without seeing any hints of even a mailbox except for one which was painted rust-brown and had no openings anywhere on it. (What is the objective of those sealed mailboxes, anyway?) I considered going into an apartment building or hotel to see if they might be able to help.

And then down the street walked a guy wearing Post Office garb. Despite my shyness I asked him where a mailbox or Post Office was so I could send this postcard. He explained the nearest Post Office was three blocks down and one over and Iapos;d need to hurry before it closed if I wanted things delivered today, and it couldnapos;t be delivered Monday because of the holiday. (Metric Thanksgiving.) I explained it didnapos;t matter if it was delivered today, and he repeated Iapos;d have to go there to get it delivered today. I reassured him I didnapos;t care when it arrived, and when he was satisfied with that he suggested he could just take the card, if I didnapos;t mind that it wouldnapos;t be delivered today. That was fine by me, and I gave him the card.

Naturally as he walked off with my card in hand I wondered if he actually worked for the Post Office or if he just strolled around in the uniform to see what happened to him. But several days later I got the news my card arrived successfully, so I suppose if he was a counterfeit he lived up to the expectations put on him.

Last week David and I made croutons and pumpkin swiss cheese soup. The croutons were really good, but I guess we added too much orange zest to the soup cuz it ended up kinda too orangy. It took forever to make, but we had a lot of fun.

Sometime soon weapos;re going to a pumpkin patch to get some carving pumpkins for Halloween. Weapos;re gonna be some kind of zombies. Donapos;t know who yet, but definitely something gruesome and gory. And zombies are great because they donapos;t discriminate. Anyone can be a zombie. Last year I was a hippie zombie in a zombie fashion show and I loved it. :o)

Last night we saw Buckethead and That One Guy in Charlotte. It was a great show but my ears are still ringing today.

This morning we bought some cabbage at the Farmerapos;s Market, so tonight or tomorrow Iapos;m gonna make some golubtsi (Russian for stuffed cabbage rolls). Other than that pumkin-cheese soup, I havenapos;t been cooking all that much lately. Like, just salad and stir fry.

This week was really good at work. One guy was like "I donapos;t take any medications, I have God", so that was kinda sad. But otherwise, I like what I do and I feel very grown up doing it.

I canapos;t believe it is half term already... Time has flown This week Chris managed a full week at school because there were no hospital appointments scheduled. Overall he has pretty much only missed school on treatment days so has managed to be in school about 3/4 days a week on average. Friday was a pink day at school, Chris seriously considered wearing my fluffy pink dressing gown but in the end opted for a more discreet fluffy pink scarf Chris finishes the phase of chemotherapy called escalating capizzi and will be starting what they call delayed intensification 1...

While Chris has been at school I have managed a trip to Leeds to see John and talk about things Mongolian and a trip to Buckley to have lunch with Margaret at her new house there. Overall things have been very busy and look set to continue that way until Christmas.. Autumn is definitely here it is getting colder and darker and the trees are beautiful colours, might post some Autumn pics soon if I get the time. Matthew and I are off to Durham today - must go and get ready

So iapos;m watching the rocky horror picture show. :) it makes me happy. And goddamn do i need some happiness at the moment.

ugh....so today has been pretty crappy. I needed to borrow a car from my dad since mine is being worked on. So i go over to his shop and he said he had to ask me something important. the first thing that came to mind was that heapos;d somehow found out that i smoked cigarettes and he was about to lecture me about it. But no, that wasnapos;t it. He actually asked me if he could borrow some money. and not just 100 or 200 dollars, he needed 2000 dollars. I only had about 1300 so i ended up giving it to him. But goddamn, that means my savings that iapos;ve been saving for years is no more. I think i have 300 dollars to my name atm. Which scares me. Iapos;ve never been unprepared for something. Iapos;ve always had enough money in case something bad happened. I like to be prepared but now, iapos;m not really prepared for much. :(
SIGH

I suppose it could be worse.

It is only Wednesday...technically Thursday morning....But COMEON

Last night, some much looked forward to plans fell through and I got stuck sitting on my ass all night with only a brief excursion out to help Dave and QK pick up a bed for QK.

Soon as Imove out of the parking space, I realize that I have a seriously flat tire. Couldnapos;t tell where the hole was so I said fuck it and decided to get up early to take it to Discount Tire.

Justin came over at 1pm with a can of Fix-A-Flat and helped me re-inflate it enough to get to the tire place.

I get there and wait an hour reading, not too bad. The guy comes out and tells me they couldnapos;t repair it with a plug or something they had to replace it to the tune of $150. He showed me the tire and where the hole was.

It was in the side of the tire about half an inch below the tread, very narrow and about as long as your average kitchen knife.....

They canapos;t fix side wall holes.

I get home and eat a can of soup then realize how tired I am so I lay down for a nap. I didnapos;t get to sleep until around 6AM the night before and it was only 3:30 and I donapos;t have to leave for work until 6.

Iset the alarm for 5 and after it went off I start trying to get myself up.

My whole body seemed to tighten and I couldnapos;t move, couldnapos;t talk, couldnapos;t BREATHand half the time I couldnapos;t open my eyes It felt something was I sat up several times only to find I hadnapos;t moved at all.

I have no idea how long it lasted but it hurt like hell When it finally stopped I fell back asleep for a little bit longer. Woke up just in time to haul ass to work shortly after 6,

And to top every thing off, I drove from Pineville to Rock Hill tonight to make $4.
